The video was very motivating. Technology, the power it has, the way its used as such a powerful tool, dwarfing previous paradigm shifting tools like the sharp blade, the hammer.
What other technology has been invented in history and has taken over every facet of life. The home life, computers are in our kitchen appliances, tv’s in every room, cell phones surfing the web, cell phones that can start your car, that can record tv shows on your tivo, computers in every office, banking online, atm machines. What was life like before atm machines?
All the information I have at my fingertip. I can look up anything online. The video made a good point, who did people used to ask for help before google?
I am in the IT department and many of my colleagues regularly google for computer questions we just don't have answers for, and somewhere on the web, some blog, some microsoft, apple, hp discussion board, someone else has already had the same problem, asked for help, and recieved and answer.
In a way i think it is taking our society back a little in the way that in the past everyone was pretty self reliant. I think by having so much info at our fingertips we can reclaim something lost.
It is very motivating to think, as Carly Fiorina said at the end of the video, that what we have seen is just a warm up.
This is one of the reasons I have taken this course. Technology is very interesting and inspiring to me. What can be done. What people are doing on their own. There seems to be no limit.
In another aspec,t I believe the internet, the information is something all of us have burried in us somewhere. Some spiritual people believe all the past history of this planet and our species is imprinted in our dna, and that we have the power to communicate telepathically. The fact that we are building things like the internet to access all the information we know, and building cell phones and satalites to communicate around the planet, to me, shows that we kind of remember the ability we used to have, and even though we no longer use it we are finding things to allow us to use it, because deep down in our dna we just know its meant to be. And no matter what happens to us, like forgetting, we naturally go back, like dogs that that are given away to new homes and somehow find their way back home, its just instinct.
Unlimited information on human history is something we are naturally supposed to have, and while we forgot how to access it at this temporary junction we build things (the internet) to so we can once again access this information, using a tool, until one day we do not need the tool, like a crutch, used temporarily. If we have a broken leg we dont cawl around, we still walk with a tool, until we are strong enough to rid ourselves of the tool, and we can walk on our own once again. When a human breaks a leg we dont crawl around because our instinct tells us walking is in our nature.
Having all this information is in our nature. Being able to communicate with others, over vasts distances is in our nature.
