The ABC of Logic

  • the alphabet, although evolutionary, would be restraining
  • our mondern form alphabet took shape 2500 years ago in greece, it was one of the major building blocks of modern thought
  • Greece and pheonicians combine language, 
  • alphabet seen as an aid to memory
  • writing eventually changed how people thought, philosophy began

  • as the new, easy alphabet was easy for all to lean, there was an immediate revolution
  • with the alphabet the greeks created the first easy to use data storage system
  • the greeks now had a tool to chop up thought and ask complex questions, without getting lost, that had previously been confined to a small elite
  • greek philosophy began
  • aristotles technique shaped the way we  marshaling your thoughts and weigh the evidence to come to a decision about anything
  • this tool let men cut to the core of the world in order to find the essential order in all things than to use that order to shape social behavior appropriately, revealing the universe had an order and design and was not put together hapharzerdly

  • greek democracy was born
  • plato warned of writing, and how it would make man forget
